GATE is a computer-based test (CBT) designed to evaluate candidates’ knowledge and problem-solving abilities in their chosen discipline. It is recognized by top Indian institutes (IITs, NITs, IIITs) for postgraduate admissions with financial assistance (e.g., scholarships from MoE) and by PSUs (e.g., ONGC, NTPC, BHEL) for entry-level engineering positions. GATE scores are also accepted by select international universities, such as the National University of Singapore and technical universities in Germany. The exam is known for its rigor, testing both conceptual understanding and application skills, making it one of the toughest exams in its category.
